Project Details

LJ Carroll has been engaged to provide structural and façade engineering services for a comprehensive facade upgrade to the operational Mantra Hotel in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Located on the corner of George and Bond Street, the hotel’s unique positioning above the Sydney Light Rail presents distinctive logistical challenges, necessitating close coordination with Transdev to ensure minimal disruption to both transportation infrastructure and hotel operations.
In response to these parameters, the contractor installed a tower crane to the rooftop of the hotel. The tower crane facilitates the transportation of materials across the site and assists in the delivery of key facade related scope items, including:
  • Complete removal of existing, deteriorating Expanded Polystyrene Cladding system.
  • Comprehensive substrate repairs and facade coating.
  • Installation of custom-designed, replacement GRC and AAC façade cladding elements.
  • Treatment of architectural features including column cladding, string courses, and turret elements.
LJ Carroll was responsible for:
  • Structural assessment of existing building structure to support tower crane on the roof, including design and certification of temporary propping;
  • Structural and façade engineering for new GRC and AAC cladding elements including regulated designs and certification.
